ACT’s mandate is to work with the people of North Africa. It has a specific focus on Tunisia, a country with high level of inequality, where people with special needs experience exclusion, where the health system is lacking holistic care and where farmers in the south are struggling with an expanding desert. With a passion and vision for transformational development, coupled with a varied and well equipped team of both international and local partners, ACT are actively involved in helping Tunisia achieve higher standards of living amongst their most vulnerable members of society. In order to address those needs ACT is committed to work in four areas:
Bringing improvements in health to some of the most vulnerable members in society is at the core of all our health work. We have a particular focus on patients with life-threatening illnesses.
ACT develops community based activities for poor rural families concerning good use of water and raise awareness to improve sustainable use of the natural environment.
Several groups in Tunisian society are at risk and live in the margins of society. ACT works with these people to help them in in their economic, social and psychological integration.
People with special needs in Tunisia are often excluded from education and work. ACT wants to see a shift in Tunisian society to be one of inclusion and dignity for people with disabilities.
The mandate of ACT is for the Maghreb countries (Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya) with current operations in Tunisia. Within Tunisia ACT aims to work mainly in the disadvantaged interior through its offices in Gabès, El Kef, Sfax and Tunis.
